Correcting Images: Saving the File

Now that you've added layers, you need to use File->SaveAs in order to choose the psd or tif file type.

Note: the ICC profile should be Adobe RGB. If not, cancel the Save As dialog and use Image->Convert Color Profile to fix it.

I do not recommend saving in a version set, unless you truly have many different versions of the same image.
